Longford Variety Group has marked a significant milestone by presenting €8,500 in cheques to charities across County Longford on Friday, January 23, reaffirming its long-standing commitment as a community-based organisation, by the people and for the people of Longford.
The presentation evening brought together members of the cast, committee and representatives of the supported charities, and marked the culmination of 12 months of hard work, dedication and voluntary effort by all involved. The event highlighted the positive impact that local fundraising and strong community support can have throughout the county.

This year, Longford Variety Group was particularly proud to support schools across County Longford, recognising the importance of investing in young people and in the future of the performing arts locally. The group also provided support to defibrillator groups throughout the county, contributing towards essential, life-saving equipment within local communities.
In addition to the €8,500 presented on the night, Longford Variety Group also provided a further €2,000 in sponsorship during the year to various local charities and community initiatives. The group also hosted its first-ever Dance Camp, aimed at encouraging youth participation in dance and performance.
These efforts bring the group’s total contribution to local schools and charities over the past year to €10.500.
Chairman Charlie Murray thanked the people of County Longford for their continued support, along with local shops and businesses for their sponsorship. He also paid tribute to the cast, crew and committee for their tireless work behind the scenes, noting that the evening showcased what can be achieved when a community works together.

The donations were given to: St Christopher's, Cloonfour National School, Clondra National School, St Mary's National School (Edgeworthstown), Lisryan First Responders, Longford Defibrillator Group, Longford Westmeath E.T.B, the Temperence Hall, the Irish Wheelchair Association, James Foxes O'Reilly / Barnsfield School of Dance, DePaul Bethany House, Newtownforbes First Responders Group, Ballinamuck Afterschool, Lus Na Greine FRC (Granard), and Bridgeways FRC (Ballymahon).
The occasion was described as a proud and emotional night for Longford Variety Group, as the organisation now looks ahead with optimism to its 2026 production and its continued commitment to supporting local causes.
