A young boy is recovering well after an U-12 Jack Wyer Hurling Tournament game was abandoned last night at the Mill Field in Mucklagh.

The game was between Shamrocks and Drumcullen and the young Drumcullen player picked up a neck injury during the hurling game.

However, quick medical treatment from a nurse from the Shamrocks club who was present at the game, ensured that he was looked after and despite being 'a little sore' on Thursday, the morning after the game, he is expected to make a full recovery.

Drumcullen club secretary Dermot Horan thanked all those in Shamrocks club for their help in making sure their injured player was so well taken care of.

As it was a neck injury, all necessary precautions were taken, and due to the short delay to the game, it was decided to abandon the match.

"Our club would like to thank the nurse, Shirley Keyes, who looked after him so well," Mr Horan said.

"An ambulance was also there within about 10 minutes or so, so everyone was very happy with the way he was looked after," Mr Horan said.

Due to the injury in the neck area, the ambulance was called as a precaution, and to make sure the injury wasn't more serious than first thought.

The Jack Wyer Tournament commemorates and celebrates the life of Jack, a young Ballinamere/Durrow hurler and footballer who passed away at a tragically young age on April 3rd 2014.
