During a visit to Longford, Minister for Social Protection Leo Varadkar, said hopes remained high that 170 soon to be made redundant staff at Longford manufacturer Cameron will find alternative employment within the county.
Minister Varadkar called to the Social Protection offices in Longford, before he along with Deputy Kevin 'Boxer' Moran and Senator Gabrielle McFadden met with representatives from Longford Women's Link.
After viewing the restored St Mel's Cathedral, the Minister also visited the Ballinalee base of Cllr Micheál Carrigy and from there he went to Granard where he met with local councillors and members of the Granard Area Action Group.
He was also driven through Granard in Eamon Creamer's beautifully restored 100-year-old Model T car, once driven by Kitty Kiernan and Michael Collins.
