Former and current employees of the Longford Leader were out in force last Friday night as one of its own, Joe McDonagh launched his beautiful picture book in Longford Library.
The book, which was officially launched by Managing Director of Iconic Newspapers, Joe Flaherty, is a colourful display of imagery and words of wisdom designed to bring light into even the darkest corners of the mind.
“I’ve been through, in my life, as much as you can be through. Sometimes I’ve been down on the ground in black places - like everybody else has. And I’ve come through it all and I’ve learned. It’s all a learning curve for me,” Joe told the Longford Leader recently.
“I regard it as a success story - not a sob story. That’s deadly important.
“I suffer from Hermititis. I live on my own with my dogs. I have no contact with anybody. When I had the cancer, I went through it on my own - empty house, only me. Nobody else.
“And I used to lie on the floor because I used to think if you lie on the floor, you can’t fall.
“So I got through everything myself. And even up to last year I’ve been through rough times and everything was black.
“I think it’s great. I’m lucky,” he added.
Joe's 'cameos' are shared daily on Facebook and the words are all his own, unless otherwise stated on the image.
And he has kindly offered to share one inspirational image per week with Longford Leader readers.
This week's image can be found on page 45.
