Killashee’s St Brigid’s GAA has expressed its deep sadness at the passing of former player and club chairperson Paddy Nolan.

Remembering Paddy as “a true gentleman”, a sentiment echoed by many in their condolences, the club recalled the way in which he represented St Brigid’s with “great pride over many years, both on and off the field” remaining a much-loved figure among teammates and supporters.

Paddy was a pivotal member of the club’s famous 1974 Intermediate Championship-winning team, playing alongside his brothers Peter and Tom. His success on the field continued in the years that followed, as he was also part of the club’s Junior Championship-winning teams in 1985 and 1989.

Away from the playing field, Paddy made a significant contribution to St Brigid’s, serving as chairperson during a particularly turbulent period for the club.

“Off the field, Paddy was an unparalleled servant to the club,” St Brigid’s said. “As chairperson, he kept the club going through the toughest of times when numbers and finances were low. Together with his brother Peter, they gave absolutely everything for the club.”

Paying tribute to Paddy’s lasting contribution, the club added, “Paddy will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by everyone who knew him and his contribution to St Brigid’s Killashee GAA Club will never be forgotten.”

The club extended its deepest sympathies to Paddy’s wife Ann, children David, Kevin and Patrice, his wider family, friends, neighbours and all those who knew him.

“On behalf of everyone at St Brigid’s Killashee Club, we extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to Paddy's family,” the club said. “Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.”

There has been an outpouring of sympathy following Paddy’ passing.

One club member wrote, “It was a privilege to have known Paddy and to have joined him on the Killashee football team. He was a true gentlemen and a joy to be in his company.”

Another person also recalled Paddy’s playing years, writing, “It was with great sadness that we heard of Paddy's passing. We will always remember the friendly smile that he would greet us with, his chatty nature and his talent on the G.A.A. field when he played for St. Brigid's Club.”

A sympathiser who worked with Paddy for a number of years said, “What a lovely man. He always had a smile and time for a chat when we met after retirement”
