Rick O’Shea, RTE Radio 1 presenter and patron of Epilepsy Ireland, sent a message of praise for Ardagh teenager, Rebecca Reid
RTE Radio 1 presenter and patron of Epilepsy Ireland, Rick O’Shea, described as extraordinary the work carried out by Ardagh teenager, Rebecca Reid, in raising awareness of Epilepsy.
Rebecca has suffered severe seizures almost daily since the age of five when she was diagnosed with an extreme form of epilepsy called Lennox Gastaut Syndrome. Despite this challenge, Rebecca and her sister Emma continue to highlight the issue and promote greater understanding of the condition.
In recognition of her courage and resilience, Rebecca was recently made an honorary Garda at a Little Blue Heroes awards ceremony in Templemore.

In a video that was played for Rebecca during a celebration hosted by Luas na Gréine to mark her graduation as an honorary Garda, Rick said, “You probably don’t know me but I definitely know you. I’ve read about you in the newspapers and I know about all of the extraordinary work that you do to raise awareness and I think you’re brilliant. Congratulations Rebecca on becoming an honorary guard.”
Rick, who has lived with epilepsy since he was 16, has been a patron of the organisation for twenty years.
