Audio: Moto Stages Rally is huge economic boost to Longford

With hundreds of rally enthusiasts poised to descend on Longford this weekend for the Midland Motor Club’s annual Moto Stages Rally, one of main sponsors, Orlagh Reynolds (Longford Arms Hotel) emphasised the significance of the event to the town.

She told Thursday’s launch, “We loved having you last year. I have to be honest, we didn’t know what to expect. We all had a fabulous weekend and we are delighted to have you back. This year we know what we have to deal with. All the staff are thrilled that the rally is running again this year. They are looking forward to it.”
The Longford Arms Hotel is rally HQ and Ms Reynolds assured all competitors and rally fans that a warm welcome awaits.
“Take the place over, make yourselves at home because we really want you to feel welcome and we want you to know what it means to Longford to have the rally in the town and I hope it carries on for many more years to come. I hope you have a fantastic rally.”
Paul McCann, from A Plus Skip Hire, revealed his delight at being ‘joint sponsor of such a good rally’.
Mr McCann added, “I did the Moto Stages Rally myself for numerous years and I always felt it was a very well run rally. I love the idea of doing this rally, it is one of the best one’s for me, and hope it is a good day for everybody.”
Midland MC PRO Barry Molloy said the club is grateful to Longford County Council and the Gardaí for their assistance in the build up to the event, together with all the residents along the rally route who, without their support, the rally would not take place.
Garda Enda Kane explained that Gardaí will be monitoring roads for all road users. “We will be highly visible on the day,” adding that if people came across anything untoward to inform event Marshals.
“It is important everyone enjoys the rally and comes home safely,” concluded Garda Kane.
