County Longford is still reeling from the shock news that 170 skilled manufacturing jobs will be lost at the Cameron engineering plant in Longford town.
At lunchtime today, Longford Leader journalist Aisling Kiernan spoke to Roy and Hilary Davis of Davis SuperValu, based at the Hazelwood Shopping Centre, and they believe the loss of the jobs at Cameron will have a massive economic impact on Longford town.
Roy fears that many of the workers may have to move elsewhere in their quest to find alternative employment, while Hilary laments the fact that none of the four TD’s elected to represent the constituency of Longford/Westmeath are from county Longford. She suggests that better candidates are required to represent the county.
