Melview FC Football for All were the deserving winners of the Sports Ability Award at the 2022 Longford Leader Sports Star Awards, in association with Longford Sports Partnership, on Friday night, December 2 in the Longford Arms Hotel.
Melview FC Football for All is the first of its kind in Longford offering football for children with disabilities and additional needs.
In conversation with MC Tony Ghee, Melview FC Club Chairperson John Moran and Secretary Louise Lovett praised coaches Bernadette Moran, Antoinette Dolan and David Taylor for their work on the Football for All initiative.
Ms Lovett referred to the 'huge community support' that exists in Longford, while Mr Moran highlighted how Melview FC are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year yet the club doesn't have a permanent home of their own.
The club has 220 members (and 100 more on waiting list), twenty coaches and 17 teams (including Football For All) and Mr Moran expressed the view that if Melview had their own facilities the club would experience massive growth.
Sports Ability Award - Melview FC Football for All
Melview FC Football for All have been selected as the winners of the Sports Ability Award. Melview FC Football for All is the first of its kind in Longford offering football for children with disabilities and additional needs.
Over the past twelve months, the club and coaches have done trojan work in getting the Football for All team up and running.
Melview FC Football for All gives children with disabilities and additional needs an opportunity to enjoy sport, get active and meet new friends.
Not a week goes by where they break boundaries with kids that are too shy to get involved or kids that think their disabilities are going to hold them back.
The care and work of the coaches goes a long way to giving the amazing young children the chance that everyone else gets when it comes to participation in sports.
Football for All now has a regular squad of 16 players from all over county Longford training once a week in St Mary’s sports campus and playing regular organised football against other clubs.
