Longford #LE24: Under pressure Colm Murray predicts 'a real dogfight' in battle for final three seats in Ballymahon

Outgoing Longford County Council Cathaoirleach Colm Murray (Fine Gael) is among six candidates in Ballymahon Municipal District who are separated by 96 votes.

The six are, ranging from Independent Mark Casey on 620 down to Murray on 524 and the four candidates in between are Sean Mimnagh (Fianna Fáil) 584, Gerald Farrell (Independent) 579, Martin Skelly (Fine Gael) 573 and John Rooney (Sinn Féin) 550.

Cllr Paul Ross (1,300), along with Fianna Fáil's Mick Cahill (845) and Pat O'Toole (712) are on course to retain their seats with the remaining three up for grabs.

Murray admitted, "I'm in the race. Tansfers are going to be critical here and the destination of the surplus of Paul Ross will be a factor. It is a real dogfight."
