David Cassidy of Fianna Fáil and Padraig McNamara of Fine Gael were declared the final two candidates elected in the Granard Municipal District shortly after 9pm on Monday night.
A recount had been called following the close result which saw David Cassidy elected, despite trailing throughout the count and only sealing his place on the county council late on.
It was a remarkable turn around for Fianna Fáil, as the party looked like winning none of the five seats at one point, with sitting TD Joe Flaherty seemingly the only person in the count centre giving Cassidy any chance.
However, transfers from party colleagues saw him eventually seal a remarkable comeback at the expense of Fine Gael's Colin Dalton by 4 votes.
