WATCH: Crowds gather as buskers belt out Shane MacGowan hit on streets before funeral

Huge crowds gathered on the streets of Dublin this morning as Shane MacGowan's funeral cortege left the city on its way to his native Tipperary for funeral mass.

Among them was a number of buskers who broke into a rendition of Pogues classic A Pair Of Brown Eyes. They were joined by passersby to sing the famous verses and chorus amid an outpouring of grief and celebration of the life of one of Ireland's most loveable rogues.

MacGowan’s widow Victoria Mary Clarke travelled in a car behind the cortege, which was led by the Artane Band, who played a rendition of his most famous hit, The Fairytale of New York.

The Pogues frontman died last week aged 65. His coffin, draped in the Irish tricolour, was carried in a horse-drawn hearse past applauding crowds in the capital on Friday.

Shane MacGowan’s public funeral mass, which will be livestreamed on our website, will take place at St Mary’s of the Rosary Church in Nenagh, Co Tipperary, at 3.30pm on Friday.
