The long-awaited demolition of a vacant and unsafe apartment block at the Gleann Riada estate commenced yesterday afternoon.
This is the first NAMA-sponsored demolition of one of it’s properties. A NAMA spokesperson said “Where it is uneconomic to finish out an estate or part of an estate, or if the local authority deems it to be structurally unsafe, we will invest our resources in demolishing the relevant structure and ensure that it is made safe for the other residents.”
The estate was built in the middle of the last decade by Antrim-based developer Alastair Jackson. Mr Jackson filed for bankruptcy in the UK earlier this year.
