A home win on Friday would be a big boost in the bid for a place in the promotion play-offs
Longford Town FC, who sit in seventh place in the First Division table at the moment, are at home to bottom of the table Treaty United FC who come to Bishopsgate this Friday, kick-off 7.45pm.
Last weekend, Treaty were at home to Cobh Ramblers, who are flying at the moment, and they lost 2-1 and then suffered another narrow 1-0 defeat at home to the league leaders Cork City on Monday night.
Treaty went ahead after 62 minutes but in form Cobh got back in the game three minutes later with a goal from Waweru and former Town player Dylan McGlade scored from the penalty spot to give his team three points and a share in third place in the table with Wexford who surprisingly beat UCD two one at Ferrycarrig Park.
On Friday last the Town travelled to Ballybofey and they were minus Sultan Adenekan who was red carded against Cork along with the form player of the season so far Aaron Doran.
The Town were on top for most of the game and it was no surprise that they took a two goal lead with goals from Andy Paraschiv (56 mins) and Stefan Ugbesia (66 mins) and they should have added to their tally later on as they were in total control. Scorer Ugbesia was replaced by Francis Campbell after scoring, which would suggest he picked up an injury which if true would be a big loss for the Town as he is very dangerous in attack.
The good news for the Town on Friday was the fact that team captain Jamie Egan got a full game after being out for a long time due to a series of injuries. Also more good news on the injury front as Aaron Walsh came on against Harps for the final 10 minutes when he replaced Dean Williams.
It’s a real pity that the Town couldn’t hold out for win in Ballybofey on Friday as the extra two points would have the team closing in on a top five position and a place in the promotion play-offs.
Three points on Friday would be a great boost for the next game which will also be at home against Cobh Ramblers on 13th June at Bishopsgate.
Next Friday’s game is crucial as both clubs are at the wrong end of the table and we know that any team that Tommy Barrett puts out on the pitch will be trying to win at all costs.
There will be two very familiar faces in the Treaty line-out and we know that they will get a real Longford welcome on Friday night.
Jack Brady is playing superbly in goal for Treaty and in the last meeting down there the former Town man won a point for his team with some excellent saves. Jack was a very popular player when he was here and he produced some amazing saves.
Eric Yoro was also here and he gave 100% in all the games he played for the Town. He is being played in defence and midfield for Treaty according to where he is needed in certain games. During his time with Longford he was used as a centre half as a full back and sometimes in midfield. He is a very versatile player.
Cian Curtis is a very dangerous and clever player who has an eye for goal and he will need to be watched very closely.
Last season the Town played Treaty on four occasions in the league and the Town did very well against the Limerick club, winning three times and losing once.
The opening game of last season between the clubs was at the end of March at Bishopsgate and the Town won the game 2-0.
Aaron Doran opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 72 mins and Emmanuel James scored the second goal in injury time.
The next meeting was away in Limerick and the home side won 5-1 with four different goalscorers while the Town goal came from Eric Yoro.
The third game was played at Bishopsgate in early August and the Town won 2-0.
Aaron Doran opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 23 minutes and Daragh Murtagh scored the second goal on 49 minutes.
The final meeting between the clubs was down in Limerick and the Town won 2-1. Aaron Doran (26 mins) and Stefan Ugbesia (59 mins) were the Town scorers while Ferry scored for Treaty.
We go into the game on Friday in a confident frame of mind, despite letting victory slip in the 2-2 draw against Finn Harps.
The Town need to be on top form in their bid to beat Treaty and three points at home will be a big boost before the mid-season break.
Away support
Once again a big thank you to all who travelled to Finn Park on Friday last and supported the lads to the final whistle. We are asking our supporters to come out in big numbers for the visit of Treaty United this Friday.
