After the huge disappointment of defeat against Kerry FC last weekend, Longford Town FC have a chance to bounce back when Treaty United come to Bishopsgate on Saturday, kick-off 7.30pm.

The recent form shown by the Town has been very encouraging but last Saturday night it was wrecked for our lads as Kerry and their boss Colin Healy out-thought our management and went away with three precious points.

That defeat moves us back to sixth in the table and out of the automatic positions to reach the promotion play-offs.

The Town were still short Daragh Murtagh and long time injury players Irhue and Egan but the young players who have come in are doing very well.

Kerry are a very useful squad and they will be pushing to stay in the top 5 and we will need a huge effort in the coming weeks if we are to get into the play offs.

We now have to plan for the visit of Treaty United on Saturday night and despite their position in the table they will be a tough nut to crack.

While it will take a really big effort to get three points at Bishopsgate, we have an unbeaten record in the three games to date against Tommy Barrett’s squad this season.

The first meeting between the clubs at Markets Field ended 0-0 and it was a real end to end game despite the lack of goals.

The second game at Bishopsgate was a 3-1 victory for the Town. The first goal was a bit of a blunder for former Town keeper Jack Brady who gifted the goal to the Town.

Jack sliced a clearance and it came to Alex O’Brien and the ball ended up in the empty net.

In form Dean Williams scored goal number 2 in the 68th minute but Ben Feeney got one back in the 90th minute.

Substitute Francis Campbell scored goal number three a few minutes later to guarantee the three points.

The third meeting between the clubs was only five weeks ago and that game ended 1-0 to the Town. Daragh Murtagh, who is currently on the injured list, was the goal scorer at the Markets Field when a misplaced pass by Kyle Foley midway through the first half allowed the Town striker to run through and put the ball past Jack Brady.

Last weekend you could see the difference of being full time or part-time as the Kerry team were full of running and it paid off in the end.

Let’s hope that we don’t have any more injuries in the upcoming games.

We are not being over confident going into Saturday night’s game but there is no doubt that this task will be no pushover.

With that in mind we will have to be in top form to pick up another three points as we close in on a play-off spot.

As stated earlier we will have the popular former keeper Jack Brady minding the Treaty goal and we also will have another popular player returning to Bishopsgate on Saturday as Eric Yoro will be in the Treaty squad.

This game is so important for the Town as a win could put the club back in the top 5 and we need the support of all our loyal supporters in the coming weeks with six league games remaining.

The club needs your support

Next Saturday’s home fixture has become a very important game for the club as we chase a place in the top 5.

With that in mind we are asking all our supporters to make a big effort to be out at Bishopsgate on Saturday next and in the upcoming games against champions Cork City and our final home game against near neighbours Athlone.
