Clonguish manager delighted with the reward the players have got for all their hard work
Fermanagh native Dom Corrigan, in his first year at the helm of the Clonguish squad, has guided his charges to Connolly Cup glory for the first time since 2009 with Sunday’s comprehensive win over reigning champions Killoe Emmet Óg at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
After the final whistle on Sunday, Corrigan paid tribute to his players and management team.
“I am delighted for this group of players. When I met them way back at the beginning of November, I sensed that they were a driven group who were ready to drive hard for the championship and they worked very hard since we came in as a management team and I am delighted that they got their rewards today.
“They may have won lots of underage titles but I pay more attention to the quality players coming through the ranks and everyone stepped up. We just added a bit of toughness and a bit of steel to them. They have shown resilience, character and resolve in several matches to go with their talent and thankfully it all came together today.
“I know that Michael Flynn got man-of-the-match, but I felt that there were at least half a dozen players that could have won that award, but that is the secret behind these boys, it is not about the one player, the boys were working for each other and backing each other up.
“I also want to acknowledge the importance of my management team of David Barden and Peter Tormey who have both brought so much to the table for us, they have been exceptional”.
Finally, Dom commented on the upcoming Leinster Championship match away to Westmeath champions, The Downs.
“Seasoned players are important in any group as you need the leaders to go along with the young talent, and we have both in our group. They are mostly in the twenty-five to thirty age bracket, and they are a remarkably young side who can achieve more.
“But we have to keep our feet on the ground now, and in three weeks’ time, we want to put our best foot forward and go to Mullingar and give a really good account of ourselves.
“There will be some partying going on for a while, but they are entitled to that, but when the time comes to go back to work, they will be ready for that big game against The Downs.”
