A court has been told how a young Longford man accused of committing an affray has turned his life around to become an up and coming hockey player.

Emils Jonuss (18) 15 Ard Michael, Ballinalee Road, Longford came before a recent sitting of Longford District Court to hand in compensation following an incident at Camlin Meadows, Farneyhoogan, Longford on October 2, 2021.

Mr Jonuss had appeared previously for the purposes of the preparation of a probation report.

When he reappeared before Judge Bernadette Owens, defence solicitor Frank Gearty handed in €1,000 compensation to the court.

Judge Owens said she noted how probation services personnel were seeking additional time to complete a report in order to assign the required staff.

Upon learning of that news, Mr Gearty requested for the case to be adjourned to an October sitting.

“He has left a lot of his wild escapades behind and is working in a large company in Co Longford,” he said.

“He is a very talented hockey player and you could yet see him on the tele,” he said.

The case was adjourned to October 17 to allow for the preparation of a probation report.
