It's been nineteen years since twinning of Ballinamuck, Co Longford and Essert in France, and as the years go by, the links shared by the two areas seem to grow in strength.
This year, as in previous years, the dedicated Longford twinning committee pulled out all the stops as they invited their French counterparts, both teenager and adult groups, to partake in a range of multi-cultural activities from art and music to sports and cooking.
“The Youth Group came over on Saturday and the Adult Group came over on Thursday,” explained Chairperson of the Ballinamuck twinning committee, Paddy Howe.
It's been a busy week for the teens, who joined locals in Ballinamuck to watch a nail-biting Euro 2016 final where France narrowly lost out to Portugal.
If they were disappointed by the loss, they didn't have time to dwell on it, as they were whisked away for all manner of activities throughout the county. For more details, see this week’s Longford Leader.
