With a vast repertoire to listen to, catering to various demographics in families or for those who want to enjoy good music, this will be a magical night of songs from some of the best known musicals, with beautiful three and four part harmonies.
This event is supporting St Christopher’s and Longford Hospice Homecare. The dates will be February 26-28, with the curtain nightly at 8pm. Admission into the event is €15.

Brian Murray, who has been directing the Voices of Longford, and has been helping get the word out about its formation, talked about what to expect from “Hey! Old Friends!” There will be songs from Les Miserables, Merrily We Roll Along, and even a segment called Disney Delights for the younger audience to enjoy.

“Sprinkled throughout that, you’ll have some comedy as well. Because it’s Voices of Longford, we’re hellbent on trying to bring across the best in harmonies. It’s important to say that, at the moment, we have an ensemble group of ladies of gents. A region of 26 people. There would be a lot of people on stage before. In general, a lot of our ensemble have never been on stage before. For them, it might be daunting but it’ll be an experience worthwhile to them.”

There are several people who Brian wants to thank, especially for the fundraising which helped make this possible. One of the challenges to a new group is the financial aspect, but with support, it has been made possible. Brian named Peter Costello for his country-western karaoke, the Longford Volunteer Centre, John for the table quiz, as well as Roy Davis from Supervalu for the prize hamper. Denise McNamara was also named for helping with the Halloween raffle.

“There are so many. In general, without those fundraisers, it’s made our life easier. We have to keep going. The bills have to be met and paid for. You’re talking about lights and sound are two of the key elements. That is what we’re striving for.”

Rehearsals are continuing up until December, with a Christmas break, and January to piece everything together, concerning the stage, lighting and sound. Brian has said that he is happy with how the rehearsals are going, calling the group a “fantastic bunch.”

“They’re engaged and loving it. It’s an amateur process. Everyone is giving it them all. I’m proud of every single one of them.”
