According to the national forecaster, the mercury hit 19.5 degrees at the Mount Dillon weather station close to Lanesborough - the highest temperature recorded at any of its 25 weather stations across the country.
The next highest temperature (19.3 degrees) was recorded at Shannon Airport in Clare and at Athenry in Galway while the lowest temperature (12.7 degrees) was recorded at Malin Head in Donegal.
The Mount Dillon weather station, which was installed in September 2003, is located on Bord Na Mona lands, just north of Lanesborough.

In its latest update, Met Éireann, says it will remain dry and sunny across Ireland for the remainder of the working week with high pressure bringing plenty of sunshine to most places.
Temperatures could hit 20 degrees in some locations this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday but cooler days can be expected nearer the weekend as temperatures are set to return to more normal levels.
According to Met Éireann, the current indications suggest it will turn more unsettled across the country from Sunday onwards with showers and rain making their return.
