Torpedo ladies maintained their good start to their season with an excellent away performance against last year's cup final runners-up Cosmos in Round 2 of the LonLeitRos Area League.  Both teams have a number of new players in the squads and all were eager to impress.

Cosmos, who have recruited a number of younger players got of to a quick start as they went 4-0 ahead as the Longford ladies struggled to find their range. However that was as good as it got for the Roscommon side as high intensity defence from Laura and Gemma full court caused many turnovers which Sinead (13), Emer (9) and Michelle (12) turned into baskets.

The players coming off the bench into the game kept the high pressure game going and as Aine (2), Debra and Shauna (2) commanded the defence boards, Katie (9) and Eimear (10) hit some big shots to give the visitors a 37-13 point half-time lead.

As a number of players will testify, this game was pretty rough and the girls did well to stay out of foul trouble even though they kept the pressure on. Christina (4) on her debut did well as did Ger (2) who only picked up the game this summer but is learning fast.

In the end the Torpedo ladies ran out comfortable winners but know they will face tougher games ahead in the next few weeks, starting with a local derby against Dragons.

Ladies Training every Monday in Edgeworthstown at 7pm and Wednesday in St Mel’s at 7pm.

The next game v Dragons is on October 31st at 7pm. All support welcome.
