World wheelchair pool champion, Eddie McGowan
The first annual Wheelchair Champion Cup Pool competition takes place in Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim on Saturday, March 7 from 12 noon.
The best wheelchair pool players from all over Ireland will gather for this tournament.
Drumshanbo was chosen as the venue as it is the home club of the current world wheelchair pool champion, Eddie McGowan.

Local Longford player Shane Smith will also be competing.
The competition will run all day and the first matches will start at 12 noon. The final is due to take place at 5pm.
This is an additional competition to the scheduled events that take place every year. It is intended that each year it will be hosted in honour of the champion player for that year, in the venue of their choice.

One of the organisers, Andy Smith, said, “We are asking for sponsorship of any kind to help us facilitate more of these kinds of activities and to grow the number of players in the wheelchair competitions.”
