Congratulations once again to our local legend Paul Brady on winning his 6th World Handball title last weekend.
Having won five titles between 2003 and 2015, Paul had seemingly retired before making a comeback to the sport recently.
After the heartbreak of retiring injured when leading well in the All Ireland final earlier this year, a run at an unprecedented 6th World title at the age of 45 looked on if fitness held up, with Ireland hosting the 2024 event. And so it proved when he entered at the recently refurbished Croke Park venue.

Paul played well all week but looked up against it when he faced Diarmuid Nash from Clare in the final on Sunday. As his legions of supporters waited with baited breadth and hoped he could hold do it this time.
Indeed Nash opened fast and won the first set, before then Paul got into his stride pulling back the 2nd set and then he ground out the final tiebreak set to seal an unbelievable win.

Very well done Paul on such an historic achievement from all at home who are so proud of you and the game which so many before you enjoyed at the ‘old alley’.
