Leinster Vocational Schools Championship

Longford are playing Offaly in the first round of the Leinster Vocational Schools Inter-County Senior ‘A' Football Championship on Saturday next in Pearse Park, throw-in 2pm. The team management of Gerry Belton, Albert Fallon and Mick Greene are very confident that a good team is available and well capable of beating Offaly and advancing to a quarter-final meeting with Dublin again at home. If Longford advance to meet Dublin that match will take place under lights, probably at the Cashel grounds on Monday January 24th.

The Longford team is well balanced and backboned by players from Cnoc Mhuire, Granard and Ballymahon Secondary School. The team is built around James McGivney, Robbie Smyth, Cillian Lynn, Enda Reilly (Mullahoran), Anthony Baxter (Ballymachugh), Barry O'Farrell, Shane Donoghue and twin brothers John and Martin Rock (Tang) while Michael McHugh of Ardscoil Phadraig, Granard should also feature in a campaign which could yield another Leinster title.
