Liam Brady plays Bill Snibson while Lindsay Dann plays Sall in St Mel’s Musical Society's production of Me and My Girl
St Mel’s Musical Society, a community organisation set up in 1978, is gearing up for their 2025 production, Me and My Girl over the Easter holidays.
With a host of hilarious characters, witty one-liners and several toe-tapping, uplifting songs including the famous Lambeth Walk, The Sun Has Got His Hat On and Leaning On A Lamp Post, Me and My Girl is a sublime and sunny treat for all fans of musical comedy.
Under the expert leadership of renowned director Peter Kennedy, musical director Fintan Farrelly and choreographer Dylan O’Keeffe, this year’s show is set to be one of the society’s biggest yet.
Last year, the group introduced tiered seating at St Mel’s College sports hall, allowing their audiences to enjoy a full theatre experience and this year’s production will once again include fully tiered seating, a larger stage, a live orchestra and a custom-built set.
The set, which has been designed by Stage Manager Eddie Kiernan, Robert Belton and Peter Kennedy, is being constructed in collaboration with Longford Town Men’s Shed with support from Longford County Council and Creative Ireland.
Speaking ahead of opening night on April 21, Lyndsay Considine, PRO of St Mel’s Musical Society, said: "The society first performed Me and my Girl back in 2000 in the Temperance Hall, with Benny and Christine O’Brien in the leading roles. It’s always been a favourite of the long-standing members, thanks to its high-energy dancing, hilarious comedic moments and heartwarming story.
The show takes place between April 21 and April 26 and tickets are selling fast, with a number of nights already set to sell out.
"We had excellent feedback last year after introducing tiered seating, so we’re providing fully tiered seating again this year, with some tweaks and improvements – so there’s no such thing as a bad seat," said Lyndsay.
ABOUT THE SHOW
Bill Snibson (played by Liam Brady) is a Lambeth costermonger who is revealed to be the new Earl of Hareford - and his newly-discovered aristocratic relations are horrified. Bringing him to Hareford Hall, they attempt to educate Bill into the ways of the gentry, and to separate him from his cockney girlfriend Sally (played by Lindsay Dann). The result? Chaos of the most comical kind.
Me and My Girl runs at St Mel’s College, Longford from April 21 (preview night) to April 26. Curtain up at 8pm each night (6pm for preview night).
Tickets are available at gr8events.ie or from Farrell Stationery and Zara Hair Salon - immediate booking is advised.
