This year's theme is “Changing mindsets: empower yourself to make ear and hearing care a reality for all”.
As a diagnostic hearing clinic, our patient-focused care is aimed at changing mindsets towards ear and hearing care. We want our patients of all ages to empower themselves to ensure healthy ears and good hearing health for themselves.
With World Hearing Day in mind, we hope to create public awareness about this campaign to inspire behaviour changes to protect hearing from loud sounds, prevent hearing loss, check hearing regularly, wear hearing devices if needed and support those living with hearing loss.
Empowered individuals make good decisions regarding their health and can drive change within themselves and in society at large.
Key messages for World Hearing Day 2025:
By 2030, over 500 million people are expected to have disabling hearing loss and tinnitus requiring hearing aid rehabilitation.
Over one billion young people face the risk of permanent hearing loss due to prolonged exposure to loud sounds during recreational pastimes such as listening to music and video gameplay.
As audiologists we are seeing more younger patients who present with clinically normal hearing, with difficulty processing speech in background noise due to overuse of noise cancelling headsets and earphones.
How we hear in the future depends on how we care for our ears today. Many cases of noise induced hearing loss can be avoided through the adoption of safe listening and good hearing care practices.
For those living with hearing loss, early identification and access to timely rehabilitation and auditory listening skills training are essential to achieving their highest potential with hearing technology, aid accessories and assistive listening technology (FM systems).
Hearing loss is considered a modifiable risk factor to prevent Dementia onset in later years.
It’s never too late to look after your hearing health, irrespective of age group it is better to be proactive and have your hearing formally assessed to know where you stand in terms of your hearing health.
