Rising to the occasion - seven decades of Pat The Baker

On Thursday October 19, Pat The Baker celebrates a remarkable milestone.

Baking excellence for 70 years and providing Irish households with delicious, fresh, tasty bread. The well-known tagline So fresh it’s famous simply speaks for itself. 

Pat The Baker started out as a small bakery in 1953, founded by Pat Higgins in Granard. Through the years, the company has grown steadily to become one of Ireland's most respected household brands. 

During the 1970s and 1980s, the company expanded its operations, moving to a larger facility in 1977 as well as widening its presence across Ireland, Depots in Dublin and other regions followed.

In 1987, the Granard bakery was modernized, and in 1996, the company relocated to a new purpose built facility in Granard, now the modern corporate headquarters.

The company has earned professional acclaim within the bread industry. For sixteen consecutive years, Pat The Baker was voted Ireland’s Best Bread by the Master Bakers of Ireland.

Pat The Baker has won numerous prestigious awards, including Irish Association of Master Bakers highest accolade, the Perpetual Challenge Cup for overall success in the association’s bi-annual bakery competition and the Londis Retailing Excellence Award for Central Billing Supplier of the Year in 2012.

New product development and Innovation is key to Pat The Bakers success. Innovation remains a critical part of the drive, to support brand development.

The latest product launch in the confectionery line was Milk Chocolate Chip Pancakes. There are more product launches planned in the upcoming New Year.

A significant event in the company’s growth occurred in 2015, when Pat The Baker acquired Irish Pride. The combined operations are currently thriving, and this year Irish Pride was ranked no. 17 in the top 20 brands within the FMCG space in Ireland. (Checkout Top 100 Brands 2023)

Pat The Baker places a strong emphasis on community engagement, and takes great pride in the role as committed sponsors of St. Mary’s GAA Club in Granard. This reflects the ongoing commitment to supporting the local community, which is very important to the brand.

Pat The Baker acknowledges with sincere gratitude its dedicated staff and valued customers for their loyal and committed support throughout the past seven decades.
