The Legends are coming to town – this Saturday June 15th we welcome the Manchester United Legends and Longford Town FC Legends to Longford to mark the 100th year celebration of Longford Town FC.
An action-packed day is promised starting with a meet and greet with the United players in the Longford Arms at 12:30pm. Tickets are on sale for this in Bell’s Shop in Newtownforbes with only a limited number available.
The match itself kicks off at 3:30pm at Bishopsgate Stadium where Stephen Kenny will be taking charge of the Longford Town Legends while Mike Phelan will take charge of the Manchester United Legends.
It is great to have the opportunity to see a lot of players from both teams who have performed at the highest levels in their sporting careers. We can all look forward to an enjoyable match between the heroes of the past from both clubs.
With Andy Cole, Lee Sharpe, Frank Stapleton, Keith Gillespie and Neil Webb lining up on the United side, and Town legends from the earliest days in the League of Ireland, Zak Hackett and Dessie Barry along with players from the FAI Cup winning era including Barry Ferguson, Stephen ‘Digger’ O’Brien and Vinny Perth, the day promises to be a wonderful event and a great celebration of our Centenary. It’s a treasure trove of memories that will be an enjoyable read for all.
The club is delighted to have Cian's Kennels as our official charity partner on 15th June! Cian’s Kennels is a charity set up in memory of Cian Neary, beloved 15-year-old son of Evelyn and Enda and brother to Shane. Cian Played with the Longford Town U-15 team before his diagnosis.
There will be a collection on the day of the Legends game at Bishopsgate.
The day will conclude with a Gala Dinner in the Longford Arms Hotel on Saturday night, starting at 8pm. The players from both teams will be present and it will be a fabulous evening with interviews and conversations galore. Tickets for sale from Bell’s Shop in Newtownforbes.
