Tony Headon
The Federation of Irish Sport is pleased to announce that Tony Headon has been named County Longford’s 2025 recipient of the Volunteers in Sport Awards, supported by the Sport Ireland National Network of 29 Local Sports Partnerships.
Tony will be honoured at a special ceremony on Thursday, 26 February at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Blanchardstown, alongside volunteers from every county in Ireland (including four from Dublin). The event will include a keynote address from Minister Charlie McConalogue TD, Minister of State for Sport and Postal Policy, and the announcement of the prestigious Outstanding Achievement Award.
Tony’s involvement with Longford Rugby Club began as a player, but he quickly became a key volunteer and leader within the club. He served for several years as Treasurer, completed two terms as Club President, and continues to support the club through roles such as managing international match ticket allocations.
For the past seven years, Tony has represented the club on the Longford Sports Partnership Board, acting as Chairperson and guiding the Partnership through major change, including Covid, increased investment, and new governance requirements. He gives his time, expertise, and commitment freely, never missing a meeting and always supporting the wider community.
Tony’s dedication has made an outstanding contribution to sport and physical activity in Longford, improving the quality of life for countless people across the county.
