Killadreenan House, Newtownmountkennedy, Co Wicklow hits the market for €1.65m

This late 19th century mansion was home to spy Moya Llewelyn-Davis, who made the controversial claim that she had an affair with republican activist and 1916 Rising figure, Michael Collins.

The three-storey, five-bedroom and four-bathroom Killadreenan House sits on just under 18 acres of land.

It has gone up for sale for €1.65m and includes a main residence of approximately 5,600sq ft, a converted coach house, stables and multiple other outhouses.

Moya Llewelyn Davies (nee O'Connor) spent the last years of her life there before she died from cancer in September 1943. She reportedly regularly supplied Michael Collins with safe houses during the War of Independence, and stirred controversy with her claims that she and Collins had an affair.

The claims were dismissed by many historians.

The house itself overlooks a ornamental lake and has the Chapel River which traverses, and in parts, delineates the lower boundary. Surrounded by wonderfully mature grounds, and paddocks, the lands are suitable for a number of potential uses, including agricultural and equine interests.

The interior of the main property boasts high ceilings and plenty of natural light, while the many intact period features including fireplaces, feature staircase and balustrade, and wine cellar, and drying/laundry room accentuate the period charm of the house, which has been adapted over the years to compliment modern family living.

Discretely positioned and ideally distanced to the east of the main house, sits a large barn, tennis courts, a period stable block with coach house, and a charming two-storey two-bedroom mews which would be ideal for accommodating guests, staff, or as a source of rental income.

Killadreenan House enjoys the best of both worlds, boasting an idyllic, tranquil, and enviable rural setting, while still being located only 25 minutes from South Co. Dublin and is within a short distance of the village of Newtownmountkennedy.
