St Matthew’s National School, Ballymahon were thrilled to have been successful in securing an Olympian visit, and last Thursday, it was the remarkable Darragh Greene, Irish Olympic swimmer. READ MORE BELOW PHOTO
Darragh was greeted by everyone in St Matthew’s with a fantastic guard of honour, then he took some time to speak with the older pupils about the importance of sport, healthy lifestyles, positivity and training hard.
The Dare to Believe programme is incorporated into schools everyday actions where teachers strive to inspire the young people to ‘Dare to Believe’ in themselves through an interactive and inclusive curriculum.
Teacher Ms Dearbhail Flood explained, “For the Ballymahon pupils, Darragh’s visit was more than just a chance to meet an Olympic athlete—it’s an inspiration.”
Ms Flood continued, “As a school, we know how vital sport and physical activity are for the future of our children. The entire school community was inspired by his incredible journey, determination, and passion for swimming.”

Darragh shared stories about his experiences, the importance of hard work, and what it takes to compete on the world stage.
Ms Flood concluded, “A huge thank you to Darragh for taking the time to visit us—we're all excited to cheer you on at the next Olympic Games. Go Team Ireland!”
