Community of Ballymahon thanked for their kindness and friendship to the late Susan Hughes

Late Susan Hughes (née Reilly), Killinkere, Cavan

The death occurred on Thursday, November 1 of Mrs Susan Hughes (nee Reilly), Massachusetts, USA and formerly of Killinkere, Co Cavan, aged 85 years.

Predeceased by her husband, Lester and son Mark, Susan was a lovely lady who was caring, compassionate and friendly and loved her gardening.

She started her Nursing career at Walton Hospital in Liverpool, then returned to work in Dublin for a while.

Moving to the States, she continued nursing there with her husband who was a Doctor where they opened their own Practice.

Sadly, Lester passed away back in 1968 at the very young age of 38 years. Susan carried on in the caring profession following his death but returned to Ireland six years ago and has resided since then at Thomond Lodge Nursing Home here in Ballymahon where she settled in easily.

A huge number of people attended the Nursing Home where her remains lay in repose and again at her Funeral Mass in St Matthew's Church on Saturday morning, many of them travelling down from Cavan.

Mass was celebrated by Fr Tom Barden, with the beautiful singing performed by Mary and Megan Clancy and the Church Choir, while the music was provided by Sean Clancy and organist Padraig McGowan.

Her only son, Brian, at the end of the Mass, thanked everyone at Thomond Lodge Nursing Home, the Casey family and the Ballymahon community for their kindness and friendship to his mother during her time here.

Deepest sympathy is extended to Susan’s son Brian, his partner Patrick, the Casey family, Ballymulvey, her extended family and many friends. May she rest in peace.
