Late Charlie Brady, Killadream, Loughduff, Cavan was synonymous in ‘footballing’ circles and a staunch Fianna Fáil supporter
There was widespread regret as one of the parish's oldest and most respected citizens died away last week.
Charlie Brady, Killadream, Loughduff, passed away peacefully in Mullingar Regional Hospital on Wednesday last, June 18.
Aged 94 Charlie was predeceased by his brothers Paddy (Navan), John (Carricknabrick), and Donal (New York) and his sister Maura (Carricknabrick and New York).
Born just next door in Carricknabrick, after leaving school Charlie worked in Connolly’s hardware, Ballinagh and in Dublin and later spent some time in America.

At a dance in the Crystal ballroom in Dublin Charlie met schoolteacher Bernadette Moore from Leitrim, and they later married and came to reside in Killadream where they reared their six children.
Charlie was a highly respected member of the farming community, industrious and hardworking he had a great love of nature and the outdoors and when farming methods moved with the times he embraced it wholeheartedly.
A friendly, pleasant and chatty man he was devoted to his beloved wife Detta and his children and grandchildren in whom he took great pride.
Charlie was a great community man being involved in many parish groups, he was synonymous in ‘footballing’ circles being a member of the championship 1963 winning team and was a keen supporter of the club where family members including his grandchildren play an active role.

He was a life-long member of the local P.T.A.A. and was also a staunch Fianna Fáil supporter and both organisations were represented in Guards of Honour at his funeral.
Sadly due to poor health Charlie spent his last few years in the excellent care of the staff of Our Lady’s Manor Edgeworthstown supported by his loving family.
Charlie’s wake was held at his home on Thursday and Friday, June 19 and 20, with removal of his remains to St Joseph’s church, Loughduff on Friday evening where he was baptised and received the sacraments regularly.
Following requiem mass on Saturday, June 21 burial took place in the local cemetery.
We extend our sincere sympathy to his wife Detta, his daughters Ann Marie (T.P.) and Fionnuala (Francie), his sons Cathal (Emer), Colm (Róisín), Niall and Shane (Vanda), his grandchildren Lorcán, Sadhbh, Róisín, Tadhg, Deirbhile, Dara, Niall, Liam, Ciarán, Ailish, Danny, Charlie and Guia, his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
