Moyne born soprano Maria Matthews performed live on George Hamilton’s Lyric FM stage last weekend

Gifted soprano, Maria Matthews, who hails from the North Longford parish of Moyne had the “wonderful honour” of representing the Wexford Festival Opera on the Lyric FM stage at the Bord Bia Bloom Festival in the Phoenix Park over the June Bank Holiday weekend.

Maria appeared live on air with broadcaster George Hamilton on his programme Hamilton Scores, where she performed a selection of summer pieces to a large audience attending the festival.

The Longford soprano has been an artist with Wexford Festival Opera for the past two years. Later this year, the festival will celebrate its 75th anniversary, marking the milestone with a programme of leading national and international artists returning to the Opera House.

A member of the Irish National Opera Chorus, Maria just recently completed a three-night run at the Gaiety Theatre in Bellini’s Norma and is currently touring productions across Cork and Wexford opera houses.

Maria returns to the National Concert Hall this June for a much anticipated midsummer concert.
