A total of €2,500 has been set aside by Granard Municipal District for maintenance and repairs to be carried out in St Columba's Cemetery in Mullinalaghta.

Cllr PJ Reilly last week welcomed the news and said that the money allocated would be hugely beneficial to the burial ground and would bring peace of mind to a lot of families.

“There are overgrown trees on the boundary and this was affecting some people's plots,” Cllr Reilly explained.

“These trees will be taken down or the branches will be cut. The trees are growing out over headstones and there was a fear of them falling on top of and damaging headstones, so this is very good news.”
