Longford's Darragh Greene finished 7th in the 100m Breaststroke Final at the European Aquatics Championships in Belgrade on Tuesday evening, clocking a time of 1:00.28 in his fastest swim in this event at the elite meet in Serbia.
A great achievement by Darragh who was back in the pool on Wednesday morning to compete in the heats of the 200m Breaststroke and the outstanding local athlete just missed out in his bid to reach another European Final.
Placed sixteenth at the 2022 iteration of this Euro competition, the Tokyo Olympian was swimming in his first individual international final in the 100m Breaststroke in Belgrade.
Speaking after the Final, Greene said: “It’s my first individual final on the European stage and to go back after trials just three weeks later, I’m pretty happy with it.
“It’s indescribable when you get a chance to represent your country, it’s the main reason why we do it and put in the dedication into the sport itself is just to be able to represent your country as best as you can.”
