Originally reared on a farm at Lisnageeragh, Edgeworthstown, where her brother Frank (auctioneer and property developer) resides with his wife Mary and their family, Maura has lived in the Newtownforbes - Clondra area for the past thirty years having set up home there after marrying Joseph Casey a member of the well-known Killashee family.

Joseph is brother of Fr Sean Casey PP Killoe, Fr Shay Casey TUS Athlone, and Joseph's brother Harry Casey was instrumental in securing the nomination of Mary McAleese for President in 1997.
Maura is no stranger to canvassing, having canvassed for President McAleese who is a close family friend during the Presidential Campaign in 1997.
Maura says she wants to make Longford and its surrounding areas a better place to live.
She believes she is best placed to serve the people of Longford and its surrounding areas,as through her job she sees the challenges that people are encountering on a daily basis.
She remarked, “It is encouraging to see a variety of different projects being undertaken at the moment to regenerate Longford town, one that comes to mind is Longford Westmeath ETB developing their educational facilities at Connolly Barracks.
“Further investment is needed in Longford to make it a vibrant place to live in.”
Hailing from a rural background, Maura says she has a real appreciation of the challenges facing rural Ireland.
“Rural Ireland has been in decline, proposed restrictions on farming practice, and the difficulties that the farming sector are facing, particularly, the challenges that climate change poses to farming, from nitrates legislation and rising production costs, a lot of groundwork is needed to create a better future for young people in farming and rural Ireland.”
