Artist Anna Wiercioch is trying to develop an out-of-school art project for teenagers in Longford
Saturday, April 13 saw the opening of the Art Flying Academy in Longford – an out-of-school art project dedicated to teenagers who love making art.
The project runs a two-hour art class and continues every Saturday morning from 11-1pm.
Located in the Vintage Club, Connolly Barracks, Longford town it is open to young people attending secondary school in Longford and the surrounding counties.
The project is the brainchild of local artist and art teacher – Anna Wiercioch. Anna, who is originally from Poland, has made her home in Gowna and become an active member of Longford’s arts community. She delivers a wide variety of creative workshops for adults and children.
An exceptionally talented artist, Anna is also a qualified art and music teacher. She has an excellent record of accomplishment in delivering art programmes and is participating in the Art-In-Schools and BLAST School projects.
“Longford has a growing arts community,” said Anna “projects like Longford Lights, Dead of Night and the Creative Ireland programme have provided children with amazing opportunities to grow creatively.
“It's time there was a similar opportunity for teenagers to develop their artistic ability outside of school hours.”
The Art Flying Academy will support young artists to develop their own interests and individual artistic passions.
“We will have visiting artists deliver programmes and ambitious group projects during school holidays,” Anna said.
Art Flying Academy is supported by County Longford Arts Service. For further information please contact Anna afalongford@gmail.com
