Ballymahon Vocational School to host the first Darkness into Light walk on May 11

Support Pieta House's Darkness Into Light

Ballymahon Vocational School will host the first Ballymahon Darkness into Light Walk on Saturday, May 11 at 4.15am.

Darkness Into Light (DIL) is the flagship annual fundraising and awareness event for Pieta House.

It started with approximately 400 people walking the 5km course in Dublin’s Phoenix Park in 2009.

This May, hundreds of thousands of people in over 200 locations around the world will get together to walk from the darkness of night into the light of morning to help us in the global fight against suicide and self-harm.

Symbolically the walk represents the therapeutic counselling journey.

It sparks conversation about the importance of mental health and wellbeing in all our lives.

The entry fees raised around the world allows Pieta House and their international charity partners to continue to deliver vital services.

By signing up to walk you are generating awareness and hope.

By participating you are helping to highlight the effect of suicide and self-harm you are raising awareness and helping to end the stigma.

With the communities support, Pieta House hope to drive home a simple but powerful message – that we are all in this together.

One tribe, unified in a movement that’s working to break the stigma of self-harm and suicide.

Pieta House want people to live in a world where self-care replaces self-harm, where reasons for living replace reasons for dying.

An official launch of the Ballymahon DIL walk will take place this evening Wednesday, April 10 at Ballymahon Vocational School, with a guest speaker.

Walkers of every age and ability are invited to attend and they also encouraged to register online at

Join us on May 11 and let’s walk together for a brighter future.
