Longford man arrested for crime spree

A 37-year-old man, who lives in Dublin but is originally from Longford, has been arrested by gardaí investigating up to 50 incidents of burglary, theft and fraud.

The man is suspected to be the main instigator behind crime sprees in Longford, Roscommon, Kildare, Offaly and Westmeath, as well as three hospitals in Dublin. He is believed to have carried out the crimes with the help of a female accomplice, who also comes from Longford.

The man was questioned at Longford garda station recently, though the mother of five also implicated in the crimes has yet to be arrested. The man was arrested by gardaí less than two and a half hours after he allegedly stole a handbag in Mullingar.

Whilst in custody, the man was was also questioned in relation to a number of other incidents of theft and fraud in the Longford district.

Investigations by gardaí remain ongoing.
