Former Rose of Tralee winner Maria Walsh seeks Fine Gael nomination to contest European election

Former Rose of Tralee winner Maria Walsh will be a judge for the Longford Rose selection.

With only a few days left to apply to represent County Longford at this year's Rose of Tralee Inter- national Festival, the committee are already planning the selection night and have former Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh lined up as a very special guest judge.

Maria, 31, was crowned Rose of Tralee in 2014 and will ensure that whoever is selected to be this year's Longford Rose will put her best foot forward when representing the county in Tralee in August.

Maria is believed to be the youngest candidate to contest in the upcoming European elections in which she will run for Fine Gael.

Loren Katie Logan who is the current Longford Rose, took to Facebook on Sunday to encourage the young women of Longford to send in their applications.

This year, due to a change in the running of the festival, the Longford Rose will be guaranteed a spot on the TV interviews when she goes to Tralee in August.

The deadline for applications is this Sunday, March 17.
