Cuidiú, a breastfeeding support group based in Co. Longford, is set to play host to the celebration of their first anniversary at Coffee House 45 in Longford, February 27, from 10:30 am.
The service was first started by Offaly-native and trainee breastfeeding counsellor, Ciara Reilly, in February of last year. The group meet twice every month and is aimed at helping other mothers with the struggles of breastfeeding.
Ciara explained: “A number of my friends had difficulty on their breastfeeding journey, so much so that some reluctantly gave up much earlier than they wanted to. We need more supports in place to help women who make the choice to breastfeed.”
Although still in their maiden year, planning to further progress the service is now well underway and the ambitious Ciara, hopes to branch out into Roscommon county. The branch will soon become Cuidiú Longford-Roscommon and Ciara will be joined by Strokestown resident, Denise Kelly.
“Roscommon needs Cuidiú too,” Denise said.
The group already have another breastfeeding counsellor in training and will host numerous fundraising walks, coffee mornings and more over the course of the year.
