Longford County Council will hold a fundraising concert in aid of St Christopher's on Saturday, February 2, in the Longford Arms Hotel.
Rehearsals are now in progress. Members of Longford County Council will be performing on the night.
“The reason we’re doing this is because St Christopher's couldn’t do the calendar this year and they would have all the work from the service users printed in that calendar,” explained Cllr Peggy Nolan.
“They couldn’t go ahead with it this year and they’ve had a €6,000 shortfall as a result.
“Every single penny is going to St Christopher’s. This is a service that is ingrained into the heart and soul of people in Longford and it is a service that we need to protect.”
There has been a huge outpour of support for the event from businesses in the town with the Longford Arms providing the venue and Turner's printing the tickets free of charge.
“I asked the councillors in Longford to take part and I have to say I was in awe of the council that has represented Longford for the past four years. Every single councillor has agreed to do it,” said Cllr Nolan.
“I think the public will really see the calibre of who is representing them.”
Tickets are available from members of the County Council or from Longford County Council Offices and are €20 each.
“We’re looking for a full house,” said Cllr Nolan.
“So you can laugh at us, cry at us - it doesn’t matter as long as you come along and support us and support St Christopher's Services.”
This promises to be a great night with hosts Sinead Hussey and Michael Nevin keeping the show ticking over in between likely comic displays.
