Operation Transformation fever in Longford

Longford gets healthier and fitter as hundreds take part in Operation Transformation walk in Longford town on Saturday.

Almost 500 people got their walking shoes on across county Longford in conjunction with RTÉ’s Nationwide Operation Transformation Walk last Saturday morning.

Among the venues which hosted walks were Longford town, the Sports Hub Edgeworthstown, Leebeen Park in Aughnacliffe and Granard's Lus na Greine. Well known local iron man, Brendan Doyle led participants from the Market Square while Shanley’s Fruit and Vegetables kindly sponsored various fruits for those who did take part. The Edgeworthstown walk left from the Sports Hub with Laura Doyle leading from the front. The Leebeen Park walk was led by Kay Sheridan while the Granard walk was organised by Irene Reeves from Lus na Gréine FRC.

“There was a brilliant atmosphere at all walks with everyone involved enjoying the fresh air,” said Sarah Mulligan from Longford Sports Partnership. The Operation Transformation Walk is billed as a way of kickstarting a change in people's lifestyles.

A whole host of programmes are running across the county in unison with the 8 week RTÉ programme with people advised to check local community programmes for more. See pages 32 & 44 for more photos.
