County Longford Historical Society rounded-off a very busy and successful year with a special presentation on Thursday evening.
Eric Shaw and his wife Breda, who live in Clarecastle, Co Clare received presentations to mark Mr Shaw’s contribution to the society over several years.
Chairman, Hugh Farrell, presented Mr Shaw with a painting of Ardandra Castle, Legan, which was done by distinguished Longford artist Pat Hourican.
“Ardandra Castle was owned for many years by the Shaw family,” said County Archivist Martin Morris.
“The painting is based on a rare photograph which is owned by James Bannon, Legan.”
Meanwhile, speaking on the occasion, Mr Shaw recalled his roots in Legan and Ballymahon, and the many times his late cousin - also Eric Shaw - visited Longford.
“Mr Shaw previously donated a collection of postcards to the society and on Thursday evening he handed over some papers and photographs to it also,” Mr Morris concluded.
