Woman dies following midlands road crash

Longford Leader National News: Gardaí in Portlaoise are appealing for witnesses

A woman in her 40s has been killed in a crash in the midlands.

The two-car collision occurred at around 10pm on Friday night on the N80 close to Ballickmoyler in Laois.

Gardaí and Emergency Services were attended the scene. The female (48) driver of one of the cars sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

A man in his 40s, who was the driver of the second car was transferred to Tullamore Hospital and his injuries are understood to be serious. 

The N80 is currently closed to traffic and local diversions are in place to enable Garda forensic collision investigators to examine the crash site. The local Coroner has been notified.

Gardaí in Portlaoise are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station 057-8674100, the Garda Confidential Line or any Garda Station.
