Donegal Circuit Court: Raphoe man rammed garda car twice during high-speed chase

A man who appeared at last week’s sitting of Longford District Court charged with assault was granted conditional bail following a hearing into the matter.

The court was told that the case centred around an assault in a residential area of Mullingar last week.

Roy Kiernan (21), 44 Grange Meadows, Mullingar, Co Westmeath appeared before Judge Seamus Hughes charged with assaulting another man and causing him harm at 5 Grange Heights, Mullingar on February 3 last.

Gardaí told Judge Hughes that the defendant had been arrested, and charged on the morning of the court sitting.

The court was also told that gardaí would not object to bail provided a number of conditions were imposed, and it was also indicated that a file in respect of the matter had been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Meanwhile, Judge Hughes granted conditional bail and ordered the defendant to appear back before him on March 4 next, by which time, it is expected the DPP will have given her direction in the matter.
