A mother of five has been given a two months suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to shoplifting in Longford town last October.

Elisha Nugent, 9 Auburn Lodge, Prospect Woods, Longford was charged with stealing a make up set valued at €18 from Heatons, Ballymahon Street, Longford on October 24 2016.

Inspector Blaithín Moran said Ms Nugent entered the store at around 4pm and could be seen leaving soon after without paying for the said item.

She said gardai were contacted which resulted in Garda Jamie Rosney identifying Ms Nugent on CCTV footage taken from the scene.

When questioned over the incident, Inspector Moran said Ms Nugent made full admissions as to her culpability.

However, she added, the goods were not recovered.

Judge Hughes was further told Ms Nugent had seven previous convictions to her name.

He consequently handed down a two month prison sentence, suspending the term for a period of three years.
