Burke gives thumbs up to proposed Lanesboro distillery

Fine Gael TD for Longford/Westmeath Deputy Peter Burke.

Longford Westmeath Fine Gael TD Peter Burke has given his backing to a local firm's plans to develop a distillery and visitor centre in Lanesboro.

"I warmly welcome this development and wish the very best of luck to the Clancy brothers and my former colleague Sheila in their new business endeavour," he said.

"Having seen the site first hand and plans for the distillery, it is clear that this is going to be a huge success story for Lanesboro and Longford, bringing significant investment to the local economy and tourism.

"Based in the old Post Office building in Lanesboro, it is hoped that the distillery will attract up to 20,000 visitors a year. There will be a range of whiskies, gins and liquors distilled on site, a visitor centre, tasting area, exhibition and other retail areas. The facility will employ upward of 20 people within 5 years, not including construction phase workers.

"It is fantastic to see entrepreneurship and commerce alive in Longford, and it will be a great source of pride for the family to set up such an outstanding facility in their home town."
