Fianna Fáil spokesperson on Transport Robert Troy TD has called on Minister Shane Ross to publish a report which was commissioned to examine the current state of the country’s rail infrastructure.

Deputy Troy said, “Today it was reported that Iarnród Éireann is facing an enormous challenge in keeping our rail network moving. A report given to Minister Ross apparently highlights that the country’s rail infrastructure has suffered serious deterioration in recent years to such an extent that rail closures may be required.

“I have already asked Minister Ross to publish the report in full so that we can have a frank and honest debate about the future of our rail network. Unfortunately the Minister has refused to publish the report to date. He seemingly has a complete disregard for our transport system and has no vision for the future.

“Minister Ross had the opportunity to discuss this report when he appeared before the Oireachtas Transport Committee last month. His failure to do so is deeply disappointing but not surprising. He has completely failed to engage in transport issues since being appointed Minister and seems to have little interest in his brief.

“I’m repeating my call for Minister Ross to publish this report without any further delay. We need to determine his evaluation of the report and what his plans are for preventing rail closures across the country.

“There are growing problems across the transport sector including long delays on the M50 and the prospect of bus service withdrawals in certain areas. Minister Ross needs to get to grips with his brief and meet these challenges head on,” concluded Deputy Troy.
